Explorex is one of Western Australia's most respected boutique off-road manufacturers. Family-owned since 2003, Explorex originally built vans for mining companies — the rough end of the industry, where vans had to survive conditions most recreational caravans never face — before reaching out to the domestic market around 2009. That industrial pedigree shapes everything that comes out of the Perth factory today: an Explorex is engineered to outlast its warranty, not just to make it through one.
Production is deliberately boutique. Only around 70 vans are built each year, with principal Greg Ferguson spending the past decade and a half perfecting what goes into a true off-road caravan. Every Explorex is built from the chassis foundation up — walls, furnishings, suspension, wiring and cabinetry are all built in the factory from the ground up, with no mass-produced assembly line shortcuts. That control over the build is what allows Explorex to honour a 10-year structural warranty on both the heavy-duty hot-dipped galvanised chassis and the fully welded galvanised steel frame.
The range is structured around how serious your off-road plans actually are. The Adventure Series features compact single and tandem-axle off-road caravans — including Explorex's smallest domestic van at just 4.9m — for buyers stepping up from a camper trailer or wanting a lighter tow. The Off-Road Series sits in the middle with three sizes, generous rear ensuites, full queen beds, and luxury fit-outs, sturdy enough for gravel-road work yet still a true off-road caravan. At the top, the Extreme Off-Road Series is built primarily for full off-road use, with higher suspension ratings, better ground clearance and improved rear departure angles — the vans for travellers heading well beyond the bitumen.
